 ACCREDITED 2008!

The physicians at Endoscopic Microsurgery Associates are currently offering M2A Capsule Endoscopy to their patients.

The M2A Capsule is easily swallowed, travels painlessly through the digestive tract, and is naturally passed from the body.  On its journey, the M2A captures and transmits video images to a wearable recorder worn by the patient.  When the test is complete, the data is downloaded from the recorder to a computer workstation where a physician can view the results.

The M2A Capsule is part of the Given® Imaging Diagnostic Imaging System, which is intended for visualization of the small bowel mucosa and is used as an adjunctive tool in the detection of abnormalities of the small intestine.

Capsule Endoscopy Overview

Simply requiring an 8-hour fast prior to the procedure, the Capsule Endoscopy procedure begins when the patient swallows the capsule with a small amount of water.  Data and images are transmitted as the capsule passes through the digestive system and are received by the Given® Data Recorder affixed to a belt worn by the patient.

After approximately eight hours, the patient returns the Data Recorder to our office for processing by a dedicated computer workstation.  The computer’s RAPID™ Application Software enables us to view and analyze the resulting patient video report.
