The Endoscopy Centers
We at the Endoscopy Centers operate a nearly paper-free medical
center. Everything from Scheduling, through procedures, through
submission of insurance claims for reimbursement is now handled
electronically across 4 connected networks. Each facility has its own
network and each is tied to our headquarters allowing the doctors and
staff immediate access to all patient information.
My name is Ted Braid, and I am the manager of information systems for
Endoscopic Microsurgery Associates. In the over 6 years that I have
been here I have seen this center grow to a group of centers. With it
the network that supports the doctors and staff has grown to multiple
networks, our own mail server, and secure VPN access for the doctor to
access patient data from his hotels while visiting China and Korea. We
run browser based scheduling and medical records and during procedures
the doctor only has to step on a foot pedal for the image from the
scope to go directly to the patient's medical record. Instead of
transcription the doctors dictate their notes directly into the record
system using voice recognition software specifically designed for our
medical specialty.
We also use internal web portals to collect and share data with the
staff for easy access so they may have what they need to present to
the patient. There is a future plan to offer our patients USB
keychain drives that contain portable sections of their medical record
as well as instructions and patient education documents all in Adobe
Acrobat format.
